Up & Down Prom Hair Styles

,

A beautiful hairstyle gives confidence, showing your natural beauty.

Prom might be the most formal event you'll attend in high school, and you want it to be special. Every girl deserves to feel like a princess at her prom. A special hairstyle will bring out the princess inside you, whether your style is funky or elegant. If getting your hair done at a salon, bring pictures of the style you like or sketch it out beforehand. Ask for what you want, and you'll have a style that celebrates who you are.

Chic Chignon

Use a chignon donut, available at many beauty supply stores, to give yourself a sleek and chic look. Pull your hair through the donut, setting it off slightly to the side of your head. A high chignon will look more formal, while a low one will give you a more relaxed look, especially if you pin a big artificial flower at the side.

Renaissance Princess

Movies set in Renaissance and medieval times are filled with long, intricate hairstyles involving lots of braids and ringlet curls. To create an elegant, old-fashioned style, tease your hair on top of your head and pull it back into a half-updo, then style the rest into large, sleek ringlets. Or, create a French braid that wraps around your hairline, as shown on Hairstyles Design's page on medieval hairstyles.

Rock Diva

Let your hair cascade into a mass of big, tumbling curls or waves. If you have sharper features, this will soften them by framing your face, giving you a stunning look. Now is a great time to think about layering your hair if you want a new look, too. This will give your hair more body and show off your features. You may want to pull your hair back after you've danced for a while, so practice pulling it into an updo before the day of the prom.

Funky Goddess

If you're feeling more funky, give your hair colored streaks. Tease your hair (or let a stylist do it), twisting it up and pinning it so the ends hang down or stick out, depending on how long your hair is. Or, pin up small chunks of hair all over your head, letting the ends stick out. Tease the ends and spray them so they stand out even more.

Natural Chic

Create a soft, elegant hairstyle by pinning up about half of your hair in a loose arrangement, setting it slightly off to the side. Leave strands hanging loose to frame your face. Style your hair in curls before arranging it into this do. Tuck small white flowers into your hair to form a crown, accentuating the soft, natural feel of this style.

Short and Stylish

If you have short hair, don't feel left out. As Hair Boutique says, you can accessorize with pretty clips, ribbons or flowers. Wear a sparkly tiara or headband, spike your hair or style it in a sleek 'do that frames your face, whisking your bangs across your forehead for a dramatic effect.
