Make Indie Bracelets

,

Make your own indie bracelets.

"Indie," meaning independent, refers to a taste and style that avoids mainstream commercialism, seeking instead, something authentic and artistic. Perhaps nothing is more indie than doing it yourself. Designing and making your own clothing is one form of indie expression. Making your own bracelet from fabric you choose adds a little bit of indie style to the way you dress.

Instructions

1. Wrap the elastic around your wrist until it fits comfortably. Cut off the excess elastic with a pair of scissors.

2. Cut the length of fabric to be twice as long as the elastic band.

3. Fold the fabric in half, making the width about 1/2-inch thick. The pattern on the fabric should be inside the fold. Use a sewing machine and thread to sew along this seam and close the fold. Turn the fabric right-side out.

4. Push the elastic band through the piece of fabric until one end of the elastic stops at 1/4-inch from the end of the fabric. Sew along the end of the fabric and this end of the elastic, anchoring the elastic inside the bracelet.

5. Pull the other end of the elastic to 1/4-inch from the other end of the fabric. The fabric should bunch up, since it is longer than the elastic. Sew this end in the same way that you sewed the other end.

6. Fold the bracelet over so one end is lying on top of the other. Sew a seam across the two ends. Turn the bracelet inside out.
