Men'S Eighties Clothing Styles

,

Get the '80s preppy look by throwing a sweater over your shoulders and fluffing up your bangs.

Fashion in the 1980s was wild and wonderful in many ways. Looking back we may ask, "What were we thinking?" but at the time some outrageous clothing styles were all the rage. The clothing styles of the '80s show how people were trying to assert their individuality in a new way -- men had long hair and wore makeup and women had short hair and wore boxy blazers. Men's styles in this decade varied greatly but there are a few main categories that most of us who lived through the '80s will remember -- the punk, the prep, the hair band wanna-be and the hip-hop, Michael Jackson fanatic.

Punk

This hard-edge style was often followed by children of 1960s hippies rebelling from their parents by creating a new style of music and clothing -- punk. This wild clothing style was inspired by the loud, heavy music by the same name. Punks had mohawks, piercings, leather jackets, tight ripped jeans and overall, lots and lots of black. Punk was the anti-fashion fashion, following the idea of anarchy and rebelling from all authority.

Preppy

Picture high school letterman's jackets, polo shirts with the collars turned up and penny loafers. That was the standard uniform for many preps of the '80s. The all-American preppy look included short hair, possibly with a little height in the front, and tailored, name-brand clothing. Preppy guys sometimes let the back of their hair grow out into the now-dreaded mullet hair style - business in the front and party in the back. For a great example of the dichotomy of the punk and preppy clothing styles, check out the movie "Pretty in Pink," an '80s classic.

Hair Bands

Rock bands in the '80s went through an interesting fashion renaissance, wearing long, fluffy teased hair, makeup (heavy on the eyeliner), tighter-than-tight leather pants, scarves, gold jewelry and leather jackets -- usually with no shirt underneath. These are the male rockers, not the females. Young men all across American emulated this style, although it was often toned down. Long, flowing hair that was teased out in the front and tight jeans with leather boots would be more of the average Joe's version of the '80s hair band clothing style. He might throw on a tight, heavy-metal T-shirt with the sleeves ripped off and a few gold chains to enhance this rockin' style too.

Hip-Hop

Michael Jackson spearheaded this '80s clothing trend with his unique style. His leather jacket from the "Thriller" video became iconic for men's style, along with his slick, curled hairdo and one sequined glove. Other hip-hop clothing trends of the '80s included parachute pants, Adidas sneakers, huge clock necklaces and heavy gold jewelry. In the early '80s, bright-colored track suits and bucket or fishing hats were popular. The styles of MC Hammer, LL Cool J and Run DMC had a major influence on '80s hip-hop clothing trends.

Men'S Dress Safety Shoes

,

Some men's dress shoes have built-in safety features

Some jobs require men to wear business dress but also have protective footwear. In these situations, it is best to find men's dress safety shoes. These shoes look like the dress shoes men typically wear with suits, but have added safety features, such as steel toes and durable soles.

Products

Many men's shoe manufacturers make safety shoes in the same styles as their dress shoes. Although the shoes are reinforced the same way that work boots are, they match dress pants, suits and business casual clothing better than work boots. Safety dress shoes are made in loafer, wingtip and oxford styles and are available in black and brown.

Steel Toes

Steel-enforced toes protect toes from injury if something is dropped on them. In the front area of the shoe, a thin steel cap reinforces the shoe material. Steel-toed shoes are especially important when working around heavy machinery that could be dropped. The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires people at sites with heavy machinery to wear shoes that meet standards for steel toes to reduce risk of injuries.

Slip-Resistant Shoes

You may need slip-resistant shoes, depending on the job environment. Slip-resistant soles have a thick sole made of a special rubber compound. The soles have tread designs that can help the sole grip to slippery surfaces and cling to the microscopic tread of the floor, according to Shoes for Crews. The grid pattern on the sole allows liquids to flow underneath the shoe.

Ratings

Safety shoes are rated for how much impact and compressed weight they can withstand, according to Gemplers. Shoes are either rated to withstand 50 lbs. of falling weight or 75 lbs. of falling weight. A 50 lb. rating means that the steel won't crack until 1,750 lbs. of compressed weight is on top of it. A shoe with a 75 lb. impact rating can withstand 2,500 lbs. of compressed weight.

Choosing the Right Protection

Some people prefer safety shoes because they are around machinery. If you are in certain industries, such as oil refining, manufacturing or construction, make sure that the safety shoes you pick comply with federal standards for footwear at job sites. If your job falls under this category, select shoes with markings designating them as compliant with the the American Society for Testing and Materials. You should find ASTM-F2413 somewhere on the shoe or in its lining. This code corresponds with the code for the law it complies with, and it means the shoes comply with basic standards. Depending on your job, you may want shoes that have protection for electric shocks, protect against heat or cold or protect against punctures.

Dress For A Blacktie Affair Men

,

Dress for a Black-Tie Affair - Men

A black-tie request may come for an evening wedding, opening night of the opera or perhaps your company's holiday party. Break out the penguin suit guys, because black tie means only one thing: a tuxedo.

Instructions

1. Invest in a tuxedo if you think you'll have a lot of black-tie events in the coming years. In the long run it may prove more economical than renting.

2. Buy a tuxedo that has a black tie and black cummerbund. This will provide you with a basic, elegant "black-tie" look that will match any formal outfit your date may wear. You can always rent white or colored accessories should the need arise.

3. Rent a tuxedo for the occasional formal evening. Place your request well in advance of the event. Choose a colored cummerbund that matches your date's dress, or opt for the ever-stylish black.

4. Get fitted. Inseam and waist measurements are key for a comfortable and stylish pant, while a well-fitting shoulder, back and arm will ensure a sharp-looking jacket.

5. Personalize your look by selecting a jacket and shirt unique to your taste and build. Jacket cuts vary from cropped to smoking. Shirtfront options include fine pleats or delicate ribs, black enamel or pearl-like buttons.

6. Remember the sequence for getting dressed in a tux. Underwear and socks followed by shirt and pants. Add the cummerbund then jacket, followed by your tie, then shoes.

Create 1940s Hairstyles

,

'

40s Hairstyle

The glamorous hairstyles of Rita Hayworth and Bette Davis are the epitome of 1940s glamour. The '40s were exemplified with curls in every hairstyle. Curls were the definition of polished femininity. These old school styles are still very much en vogue. The side parts and pin curls of yesteryear are deemed too delicate by some to replicate authentically in present day. With a few tips, you can replicate a 1940s hairstyle in your own home.

Instructions

1. Pin the entire head in pin curls. To do this, comb the hair out in 1-inch sections and roll them around the index finger. Once secured, push the curl to the root of the head with your hand.

2. Place two bobby pins in the hair to hold the curl in place. The first bobby pin should go straight across the middle of the curl to anchor it to the hair. The second bobby pin should go in the hair in an angle perpendicular to the first bobby pin. The end result should appear as if the bobby pins are making the letter "X" on top of the curl.

3. Repeat the pinning process until the entire head is pin curled and leave the style to set for at least 8 hours. It is recommended to try this style at night, so that it may set appropriately.

4. Remove the pins after the required setting time and gently shape the curls with your finger. This is the basic starting point for any '40s style.

5. Comb the hair to one side and bobby pin for a page boy look that is simple yet elegant.

6. Pull your hair into a ponytail after making a side part to pull of a '40s school girl look. You can also pull your front bangs out and roll them towards your forehead and then pin them for extra height and a cool '40s rockabilly look.

7. Finish with hairspray after you've decided your look. No '40s style is complete without hairspray to hold it all together.

Measure A Man For A Shirt And Suit

,

We're going to learn measure a man for a shirt and suit so he'll look like this!

This article is intended to assist those who don't have the time or patience to go and try on a man's shirt or suit at a men's suit store before buying. After reading this, you'll know measure a man for a dress shirt as well as a suit.

If you know measure a man for a suit, you can even do it yourself. A man can be measured by someone at home, whether it's for a man's tuxedo rental or a man's suit.

If you follow my instructions, you're going to be very close if not right on target!

Instructions

1. Have the man stand in a t - shirt and dress pants if possible. He should wear the shoes he plans to wear with the clothing you're about to purchase.

Have him stand normally, and with his midsection in its normal state, not sucked in. That is, unless he plans to suck in his gut every moment he wears the shirt and suit you're about to measure him for. And that's not going to happen.

2. First have the man stand with his back against a wall or doorway so you can mark his height after measuring. Make sure he stands straight, with his back against the wall, when you measure his height.

Then have him step on a pair of bathroom scales to get his weight. If possible, take all measurements at approximately the same time of day or night he'll be wearing the clothing; you want accuracy. Don't do this after a huge meal.

Ask him how tall he thinks he is, and keep under consideration that he's most likely a tiny bit shorter than that. His weight estimate, on the other hand, is usually underestimated. Come on, guys. You know it's true.

3. Next you'll measure him for the shirt. This is something a man will need a bit of help with.

As you asked how tall he thinks he is, also ask what size shirt he normally wears. It helps to have the proper shirt size when deciding on the correct suit or jacket, especially the arm length. First measure around his neck, about where he'll button his shirt collar. Remember, you need to do this loosely enough to fit a finger or two inside the tape measure.

Other than the waist, all measurements are taken with a gentle touch. You don't want him to be too constrained for comfort; he has to breathe and have room to move. Be sure you can stick a finger or 2 between his neck and the tape measure. Don't forget to jot these measurements down as you do them.

4. Next measure his shirt sleeve length. Some recommend having the man hold his arm in front of him and then bend his arm 90 degrees at the elbow; others say have him simply stand naturally. Although either way is usually accurate, I prefer the latter.

Measure from the middle of his shirt label would normally be at the top of his back and over the highest part of the shoulder. Then straight down to the wrist, where the actual break is between the hand and the arm. Try to measure to exactly where you want the sleeves to come when he stands in this position. Remember, you want the shirt sleeves a little longer than the jacket.

Most men rarely walk around with their elbows bent at a ninety degree angle. As a former tuxedo and menswear retailer, that's why I prefer this second method of measuring.

5. A great fitting dress shirt and suit make for a great looking man. Accurate measurements are vitally important. Now measure the chest and hips. When you measure the chest, please be sure he's standing normally. Men tend to want to flex or develop "chest-puff-itis" when you do this, and that can be disastrous. Again, that's assuming he won't be walking around with his chest puffed out the entire time he's in public wearing this shirt and suit.

When you measure the chest, place the tape measure underneath his arms and around his back, gathering the ends in front. or slightly to one side. Be sure you can easily put two of your fingers between the cloth tape measure and the man. Don't measure tightly except for the waist.

Measure the hips around the largest part of his buttocks. Again, loosely enough to be able to put two fingers between the man and the tape measure.

6. Measure the waist. This is where it can get tricky.

Ask him what size pants he normally wears. If the man is average sized or larger, always assume he's a bit larger in the waist than he claims.

However - and this really is important - that is NOT always the case. Remember those fatty areas we call love handles tend to be more malleable. I used to say "Fat gives"! It's true. So measure this area more tightly. You want those pants to remain in their intended position, on his waist. You also want him to be able to button his coat, though.

If the man is in the habit of wearing his pants beneath a bit of a paunch or belly, you must consider that properly fitted pants are worn at the waist, not below. Convincing him of this is another issue.

7. Now measure the length of each individual leg, both outseam and inseam. Actually, outseam is more accurate, but go ahead and get both. Have him stand in an upright position with his pants in the correct place; around his waist. The man must stand erect, not look at you down there holding the tape at his shoe.

Have him hold the tape at the very top of his pants on the outside of each leg at the seam. His legs should be about shoulder width apart or a bit less. Measure straight down the sides of both legs, stopping at the point of the shoe where the desired length will be. That is the outseam. That will be approximately 10 inches longer than the inseam.

Now measure the inseam. As you did with the outseam, measure and note the length of each leg separately. Many people have a slight variance in leg length.

For the inseam, have him stand with his feet approximately 6 inches apart, in a normal standing position. Ask him to hold the tape on the seam in the inner crotch area. Again, measure to the desired length on each leg individually.

8. As a general rule, a man's jacket or coat size will be 6 to 8 inches larger than his waist, and between the measurement of his chest and hips, a bit closer to the chest size. Don't be surprised if his hips are larger than his chest. That's common. Especially if he eats at McDonald's often.

For example, if the chest measures 42 and the hips measure 40, and the waist is 35, he probably wears a size 42 jacket. But he may look better in a 41.

Regarding length, arms 34 inches or longer on a man 6' or taller will usually require a "long" rather than a regular jacket. If the sleeves are 32 or shorter, and he's under 5'9", it'll most likely require a "short" size. The median jacket or coat size is 40. As you go over size 40, the average arm or sleeve length for a regular coat goes higher (longer) than the median 33 inches. If he appears to be under a size 40, the regular sleeve length can be expected to shorten.

Average height is around 5'10". Average neck size is around 15-1/2" and average sleeve length is around 33". The average chest and hip size is 40", and the average waist 34". Average length - if you want a slight break in the trousers - is approximately 31-1/2" on the inseam, and 41-1/2" on the outseam.

When worn, the jacket should drape the man and hang to a point slightly below the top part of his thighs. The coat should cover his butt. He should be able to stand normally and, with his hands straight down, cup the outside of the coat or sport jacket at the bottom when buttoned. Many times a man might wear a regular length jacket and require alteration of the coat sleeves to get a proper fit.

Make A Bow Tie Out Of A Bandana

,

Look through your closet to find an old bandana for the project.

Bow ties don't always have to be basic black. In fact, you can create a one-of-a-kind version to fit your style using a colorful bandana. Almost anyone with basic sewing skills can create one at home, using little more than a needle and thread. Buy a new bandana from the store, or re-use one you already have in your wardrobe, to create the custom-made fashion accessory.

Instructions

1. Select a bow tie that you want to recreate. Trace it on a piece of sturdy paper, such as a file folder. Add 1/4 inch all around the outline to account for the seam. Cut out the shape. This is the pattern for your bow tie.

2. Lay the bandana on a flat surface, with its right side (decorated side) facing down.

3. Place the bow tie pattern on top of the bandana. The pattern is probably longer than the bandana, so cut the pattern in half vertically in its center and place both pieces side-by-side on the fabric. Trace the perimeter of the patterns with a piece of chalk. Move the patterns to a different area of the bandana and trace them again. Cut out along the traced patterns with a pair of sharp scissors.

4. Place the identical cut-out pieces of the bandana on top of each other. Ensure the right sides of the fabric are facing the center. Pin along the perimeter.

5. Sew a 1/4 seam around the perimeter of the bow tie pieces, either by hand or with a sewing machine. Leave the skinny end of the bow tie -- the part that sits on the back of your neck -- un-sewn and open on both pieces. Remove the pins.

6. Turn the bow tie pieces right-side out. Push the material through the open end with an unsharpened pencil or chopstick.

7. Place the two skinny ends of the bow tie together, so that one piece is slightly overlapping the other by about a 1/2 inch. Pin the pieces in place and sew along the pinned line. Remove the pins and turn over the fabric to reveal your completed bandana bow tie.

Make A Feminine Laptop Bag

,

Making or sewing a case for your laptop is an easy way to provide quick coverage for a newly-purchased machine. Sewing a bag with a touch of femininity adds personality as well, and gets you away from the hum-drum black leather of store-bought versions.

Instructions

1. Measure the dimensions of your laptop, including its thickness, and purchase a feminine fabric that's wide and long enough to cover it. Also, buy Ensolite foam or similar foam padding.

2. Mark out five columns on the foam. Widths should correspond to the front, back and both sides. The fifth column is the closing flap width. The column length should equal the length of computer, plus twice the thickness, plus 1/4 inch.

3. Cut out the foam on the extreme outer edges only. Do not cut the columns apart at this point.

4. Fold the foam around the computer with markings on the outside. Score the foam along the folding lines without cutting all the way through. This tailors the foam for a sharper, less bulky line.

5. Secure the sides to the top panels with short duct tape strips applied perpendicularly to the edges. Adjust the tightness of the fit. Cover all seams by applying duct tape lengthwise.

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 with your feminine fabric instead of your foam. Insert the laptop into the padded sleeve before you measure it, so that the outer fabric will fully cover the padding.

7. Glue the fabric directly to the foam padding, or sew it with a sewing machine to create a removable slipcover for the padded case. The second option allows you to create many covers for one case and change them as you desire.

Men'S Clothes & Styles In The 1920s & 1930s

,

The fedora was a fashion trend for men of the 1920s and 1930s.

The 1920s and '30s brought fashion and style that was as unique as the events that unfolded during this war era. Flapper style of the Roaring Twenties, zoot suits and gangsters, The Dust Bowl and the Western cowboy are all influences evident in men's fashion of the 1920s and '30s.

Hats

Men love their hats, and did very much so in the 1920s and '30s. Almost every man during the 1920s and '30s would fashion a hat no matter what the occasion. From winter to summer, there was a hat for every occasion. For a more formal fashion, men were most likely to wear a black top hat. Winter fashion brought men the wool newsboy or the felt fedora. Summer months yielded the classic straw hat or straw boater.

Trousers

In the early 1920s, male fashion was characterized by high-waisted trousers. Trousers were narrow and straight legged, with no taper and worn rather short so men could show off their socks. This is also when the fashion of trousers cuffed or turned-up at the bottom came into style. Oxford bags or wide-legged trousers became the fashion in 1925. By the 1930s, trousers tapered at the bottom were finally accepted, and made iconic by Hollywood stars including Fred Astaire and Cary Grant.

Western Style

Hollywood's Western movies elevated the cowboy who were often seen wearing jeans. Denim waist overalls then became a popular East Coast fashion for men. The jean became so popular that, in 1937, Levi Straus restitched back pockets so the rivets were covered because customers had complained of scratched furniture and saddles. World War II brought restrictions on the use of raw materials and a decline in the production of denim overalls, but during the 1930s denim still became less associated with work and more a style of leisure for men, especially off-duty GIs.

Formal Wear

Tailcoats were all the rage for the most formal occasions, from the 1920s through the end of World War II, and often worn with white waistcoat and tie like Fred Astaire. Formal or evening-wear tuxedos were black or midnight blue, with either rolled collars faced in silk or notched collars. Black ties were almost always worn with tuxedos or dinner jackets. During the 1920s, single-breasted styles were popular, while double-breasted styles were trendy in the 1930s. In the late 1920s, the waistcoat was often the substitute for the cummerbund and in the 1930s white dinner jackets were very popular, especially in the summer season.

Lowrise Vs Midrise Jeans

,

The rise of jeans affects the way the jeans look on different body types.

Low-rise and midrise jeans are two cuts of denim blue jeans. While low-rise jeans are trendy and flatter a few body types, midrise jeans are classic and work well on almost anyone. The rise -- the measurement from the crotch to the waistband -- affects how the jeans sit on the body, making this measurement important in the way the jeans look when worn.

Low-Rise Jeans

Low-rise jeans are short from the crotch to the waistband, resulting in jeans that sit on the hips, rather than the waist. Low-rise jeans -- which often have no set-in waistband -- are usually less than 8 3/4 inches from the crotch seam to the waistband above the button. In some cases, the rise is less than 6 1/2 inches. Younger people tend to favor low-rise jeans.

Body Type for Low Rise

Low-rise jeans look best on slender people who are short or petite, and those with pear shapes. In some cases, low-rise jeans on taller people will fit shorter people like jeans with a more traditional cut. These jeans don't look as nice on those with apple shapes, as they tend to push stomach fat upward into a muffin-top appearance that many don't consider attractive. People with short waists also benefit from low-rise jeans, as higher rises may dwarf their frames.

Midrise Jeans

Midrise jeans usually have a rise between 9 and 10 3/4 inches and hit the wearer a couple of inches below the natural waist and above the hips. These jeans are a classic cut that flatter a wide range of body types. Midrise jeans also are popular with people of many ages and are less trendy than low-rise jeans. Midrise jeans are comfortable to wear, because they cover more of the body but don't reach the rib cage.

Body Type for Midrise

Midrise jeans work for people with any body type, rather than the narrow range of body types that low-rise jeans flatter. Midrise jeans accentuate women's curves without highlighting them too much, and are a popular choice for women with hourglass or fuller figures. Men tend to favor midrise jeans for themselves as well. While low-rise jeans can be problematic for pear-shaped people, midrise jeans offer fuller coverage in the back.

Identify The Types Of Lace Fabric

,

The manufacture of lace dates back to fourteenth-century France, where it was used exclusively by clergy of the Catholic church. Lace then became fashionable, and lace-making spread throughout eastern and western Europe in the sixteenth century. The key to identifying the eight different types of lace lies in the ability to recognize how they are manufactured.

Instructions

Eras of Lace

1. Identify whether the lace was made by hand or machine. Machine lace can be difficult to differentiate from handmade. Machine lace often looks fuzzy, and ribbing in the stitches is usually evident.

2. Identify the way the stitches were made and connected. It is best to use a magnifying glass to follow the lace path. If the lace lacks an obvious path, it was most likely made by a machine. Early lace was made by drawing out and binding together threads from a woven cloth. Threads were also often woven with large spaces to accommodate needle weaving. These laces are usually referred to as cutwork, eyelet, broderie anglaise and burato. This early lacework evolved into needle lacing in the vein of buttonhole stitches, known as point de gaze, point de Venice and point de France. After this, bobbins were wrapped with thread and twisted to create netting and bridges over a pillow, creating laces known as bucks and torchon. Crochet lace, which originated in Ireland, uses a crochet hook to create a chain stitch. Needlelace, based on the buttonhole stitch, is in the crochet lace family, as is tatted lace, a more complex version of needlelace.

3. Visit an expert if you are unable to identify the type of lace for yourself. A fabric store or museum with a textile collection should be able to assist you in finding the origin of your lace.

Convert A Ring Size

,

Jewelry, especially a unique or extravagant ring, is always a great gift to give or receive. Whether you are purchasing a ring for yourself or a friend, size is key. Size, however, is not universal when it comes to ring sizes. By using a jeweler's mandrel and checking your personal ring sizes in advance, you will know the correct size. If purchasing the ring as a gift, check their ring against the jeweler's mandrel. Follow the below steps to ensure you purchase the correct ring size.

Instructions

Convert a Ring Size

1. Borrow or buy a jeweler's mandrel, the tool used for measuring rings. Visiting a local jewelry store is also an option instead of purchasing or borrowing.

2. Remove ring from the box or hand. Slip it onto the jewelry mandrel, allow it to settle naturally, without forcing it farther. Note the measurement, whether in millimeters or inches depending on country and mandrel.

3. Visit http://opal-trader.com/support/international_ring_sizes.asp to view the ring size conversion chart. This chart will tell you what size your ring is in US, Swiss, German, British and Japanese sizes. Note size approximations on a piece of paper for easy accessibility.

Treat Bell'S Palsy With Acupuncture

,

Treat Bell's Palsy with Acupuncture

Bell's Palsy is a type of facial paralysis that causes one side of a person's face to droop, usually around the mouth and eyes. While this paralysis sometimes disappears on its own, it can take months. Some victims suffer permanent paralysis. Conventional treatments range from various medications to surgery. Some doctors treat Bell's Palsy with acupuncture to relieve the symptoms and restore the appearance and self-esteem of the patient.

Instructions

1. Diagnose Bell's Palsy. It is important to rule out other possible causes of the symptoms. This is important, since some of the symptoms of Bell's Palsy can look like stroke symptoms.

2. Talk to your doctor about treatment options, including acupuncture. You may investigate acupuncture when other treatments do not have the desired result or you may pursue acupuncture in combination with other treatments. Acupuncture can relieve pain by limiting swelling and inflammation. The endormorphins, natural painkillers released during acupuncture, may be the cause.

3. Find a qualified acupuncturist. Your doctor may be able to recommend someone nearby. You can also contact the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

4. Make an appointment. During the initial appointment, the acupuncturist will talk to you about your symptoms and assess your condition. Ask the acupuncturist to explain the treatment principles and practices to you so that you know what to expect.

5. Go to the treatment sessions. In traditional Chinese medicine, Bell's Palsy is known as "deviated mouth" because it is a type of facial paralysis. This condition was historically associated with an invasion of "wind" that causes an imbalance in the "Qi", which is the essential substance of the body. During the treatment sessions, the acupuncturist inserts small, thin needles into the skin of a few key pulse points and also employs any other helpful approaches, such as pressure points. The treatment should restore the balance of the "Qi" and heal the patient.

6. Follow any dietary and stress reduction recommendations made by your acupuncturist. Be sure to mention any food allergies or sensitivities and any physical conditions of concern. Also list any medications that you are taking for the Bell's Palsy and other conditions.

7. Keep your acupuncturist and doctor informed about how you are feeling as you complete each treatment. Bell's Palsy is characterized by various symptoms, including facial weakness, mildly compromised taste, increased sensitivity to sound and involuntary tearing. Tell your acupuncturist about any discomfort or side effects you experience. It is rare that any are reported, but it is your body and your sensations. As the symptoms diminish and you start feeling better, help your acupuncturist and your doctor help you continue to improve.

Prom Suit Ideas

,

Prom is one of the most memorable events in the life of any high-school student. For most, prom is the first formal event of one's life. You'll be moving around, taking pictures and interacting with friends. With that in mind, your prom suit you select should be a reflection of your personal taste and style. Here are some prom suit ideas to get you prepared for your big night.

Traditional Tuxedo

Before picking out your prom suit, consult with your date to find out what color dress she's wearing. Your vest or cummerbund, and your tie, should be the same color as your date's dress. If you prefer a classic look, you can go with a traditional tuxedo--one that hearkens back to the debonair look of the James Bond movies. Most traditional tuxedos have a black jacket and pants, white shirt, black shoes and a black tie. A vest or cummerbund is optional with a tuxedo. However, you can exchange a black jacket for a white jacket. If you plan to rent your tux and accessories, it's easier to rent a traditional tuxedo than a retro tux.

Go Retro

If it suits your personal taste, you may wear a retro tuxedo to your prom. Retro tuxes stem from the 1970s and '80s. Retro tux colors include Carolina blue, pink and yellow. Some retro tuxedos come with matching shoes. If you want to wear a retro tux, discuss color ideas with your date. This will help you make a fashionable impression, by properly coordinating your retro tux color with your date's dress. You may find it difficult to rent a retro tuxedo. In most cases, you'll have to buy the tux, shoes, shirt, tie and vest.

A Modern Aproach

Wearing a modern tuxedo is another approach you could take. Modern tuxedo jackets are usually a little longer than traditional tux jackets. Modern tuxedos allow you to match various color schemes, like peach, mint green, and many other pastel colors. Modern tuxes are available for rental at retail stores like the Men's Wearhouse. In most cases, you'll be able to rent your shoes, cuff links, tux and shirt, in a package deal. Give yourself a minimum of one month to pick your tux, and have your measurements taken. You can buy your tuxedo and accessories, though that can cost hundreds of dollars more than a rental.

When To Wear The Proper Kilt

,

Deciding when and where to garb yourself in the proper kilt can sometimes be a difficult choice. While there are kilts that are formal, made of good wool and usually include a tartan as well, there are also kilts that are meant more for everyday wear. Choosing the right garment for the right occasion is extremely important, even more so with something as unusual as a kilt.

Evaluate the Event

The first thing you'll need to do when deciding what kilt to wear is to decide what sort of apparel will be appropriate. If you're going out to a bar with friends or going out to a club, then the informal kilt should be worn without question. If you're going to a funeral or to a formal gathering such as a march or wedding then you should definitely wear a formal kilt with tartan, likely with a sporran as well. The tartan is the pattern and color of the weave that identifies a certain family or clan and a sporran is a small pouch that hangs from the kilt on two chains that's used to store things since kilts have no pockets. The difficult choices will be in events that could be considered "office casual," like family reunions, office parties and other events where there isn't a formal dress code, but it isn't a come-as-you-are sort of gathering.

Modification

Once you've determined just what sort of event you'll be attending in your kilt, it's time to decide what is the proper look. A kilt, much like a suit jacket, can be made more or less casual depending on how it's worn and what accessories are worn with it. The tartan always makes a kilt more formal, and a kilt without one is better used for casual wear. Wearing a sporran can also make your kilt seem more formal if you have a formal sporran, which is usually made of high quality leather and genuine fur. If you wear a formal shirt with your kilt then it looks more official, but if you wear your kilt with a T-shirt (or in some outdoor events with no shirt) then it becomes more casual. Simply tailor the rest of your outfit to reflect how formal or informal you want your kilt to be perceived as, and you should be fine.

Make A Clipon Tie From A Regular Tie

,

Tying a necktie is an imposing task for a young boy.

Even someone who is accustomed to wearing a necktie on a regular basis may long for the ease of a clip-on tie from time to time. Young boys who are just starting to wear ties are likely perplexed as to how they should fashion the appropriate knot. A clip-on tie is the ideal solution, but you may only be able to find a desired tie in traditional form. You can convert a traditional necktie into a clip-on with a little trimming, glue and the appropriate hardware. With a custom clip-on tie, you will no longer have to solve a puzzle around your neck before beginning your day.

Instructions

1. Tie the necktie as you would traditionally wear it. Use a human or stuffed animal as a model, if desired.

2. Loosen the tie and slip it over your head, or the head of your model. Keep the knot intact. Pull the ends of the tie to return it to the proportions it has when you are wearing it. It should look exactly as it would appear if it was tied properly around your neck.

3. Turn the tie over so that the front of it is face down on your work surface. Cut the neck portion from the tie with scissors. Leave 1 inch of fabric on each side of the tied knot.

4. Open the tie clip. Apply hot glue to the long, flat side of the clip. Press the clip into the center of the knot. The top edge of the clip - where the hinge is - should be slightly lower than the top of the tie's knot.

5. Fold one of the 1-inch tabs of fabric over, toward the middle of the tie. Lay it over the glued half of the clip. Flatten the fabric as much as possible so that it does not hinder the clip from latching properly. Do not cover the rubber stopper at the bottom of the clip.

6. Apply a pea-sized bead of hot glue between the clip and folded fabric to secure the fabric to the backside of the knot. Repeat the process with the other tab of fabric.

7. Close the clip-on fixture.

Ways To Tie A Necktie In A Big Puff Knot

,

Large, puffy knots have a vintage look, a visual reference to Victorian fashion.

Traditional neckties are long and slender, but many men are searching for something different in terms of neckwear. Big, puffy knots have a vintage feel that lends distinction and elegance. The look recalls the cravat, a staple of men's fashion in Victorian and Edwardian times. The cravat is a wide, scarf-like neckpiece usually tied in a large visible knot---it's still available today in men's specialty stores. To create similar large-knot looks with modern neckwear, you'll need a wide tie or a cravat and a spread-collar shirt that accommodates the size of the knot.

Ascot Knot

This classic knot is loose and casual---like looping a scarf beneath your shirt. Because of its looseness, you can customize the amount of puffiness you get by leaving the knot loose or by pulling it tight. The method is the same used to tie a knot in your shoelaces. The wider the tie, the easier it is to puff up the fabric for a large knot. Both ends of the tie should hang down loosely, tucked beneath your shirt.

Ruche Knot

This knot is traditionally tied with a cravat, but you can try it with a wide necktie or even a knit scarf. It's called a "ruche" because the finished look consists of a large, scrunched knot. It is constructed by looping the longer end of a tie over and underneath the shorter end, pulling the longer end up through the knot and then down over the shorter end through the knot again. Because of the width of the fabric, the extra fabric scrunches up to make a puffy knot instead of lying smooth. The wide ends of the tie hang down, one beneath the other, just like a traditional necktie. The knot itself should be somewhat loose.

Windsor Knot

The width of this knot can be puffed up as much as you like, or tightened for a more traditional look. Because it is wide, it's a good visual contrast for men with long faces. Its basic construction involves creating a knot by looping the wide end of a tie over and through the narrow end twice, then pulling the wide end through the knot and tightening it as desired.

Italian-Style Wrapped Knot

Hollywood stars like Puff Daddy have been known to mix up their looks with extra-large tie knots. The look is unfamiliar to many men in America, but this style traces its origin back to Italy. To create the look, you need an extra-long tie; although these are readily available in Italy, they're harder to come by on this side of the Atlantic. The tie is created with extra length so you can wrap it around the knot at least three times. The knot becomes big and puffy, looking more like a ruche knot than a traditional tie knot.

How to Become a Fashion Designer?

,
Over the years, I had the honor to meet and/or talk to several talented Fashion Designers. All of them had great advice and clear ideas as to what a true Fashion Designer is made of. So I decided to make a short compilation of the best advice I have heard and who said it.
Every Fashion Designer started out from the beginning. Some dressed Barbie dolls when they were little. Others might have doodled fashion illustrations in their high school text books. Here is an overview on how to be a Fashion Designer, condensed into three steps.
1) Learn to Express Yourself with Fashion
A lecturer once said that the hardest thing for any Fashion Designer is to deliver concepts into reality. Fashion Designers create outfits by drawing, cutting, draping, and finally finishing the outfit. A lot of processes go into all stages of creating a fashion piece. Just like words or colors, clothes only look and feel right with the right combination of material and concepts.
One way to learn is to visit libraries for reference books on fashion. Attend fashion shows, network with like-minded people within the industry and if you are a student studying in a fashion school, get those leads from your lecturers. They should be able to recommend you to the right contacts. Sewing skills are an advantage, if not a necessity, to work as a Fashion Designer. In order to create all sorts of fashion pieces, you need good exposure to design concepts and practice.
2) Earn Your Creative License
Sadly, the world is full enough of people who speak louder than their actions. However, that can easily be avoided or cured. Enrolling in a design school for a diploma or degree in Fashion Design will build true capability to create stylish and practical clothes. In school, you will be taught by veteran professionals on how best to develop your skills. They will not only be able to recommend the right books and guide you to use industry-level technology to create fashion pieces. They should also be able to connect you with the connects in the industry.
Your certification will be proof that you have undergone professional training at an institute. Your portfolio created in school will prove your creativity and technical ability as a Fashion Designer.
3) Work Like a Professional
Those who are truly serious about what they do never stay amateurs for long. Neither should you. Right after graduating school, you should send portfolios and résumés to fashion houses, go for interviews and be prepared to work teh ground. This is where you get real experience on how Fashion works in the industry level. If you feel confident and skilled enough to set up your own label, go right ahead!
