Put Designs On Black Shirts At Home

,

Adding a design to your black T-shirt shows your personal style.

Instead of spending $20 to $40 on a new design T-shirt, you can easily create one at home. Black T-shirts are the new blank canvas for creating a look that's tailored to your personality. With a few simple tools, you can start creating your own fun T-shirts.

Instructions

Bleach

1. Wash your black T-shirt. This will prevent your image from shrinking or distorting once your shirt is finished. This also removes any fibers that might get in the way of your paint or bleach design. Dry the shirt in the dryer.

2. Fill a spray bottle with 50% bleach and 50% water. Stretch the T-shirt across a large piece of cardboard to prevent the bleach from seeping through the fabric onto your furniture. Create your stencil on another large piece of cardboard by tracing out a simple shape, or by using a pre-made shape. Trace around the shape, then use your knife to cut around your tracing. Use the outside cardboard outline, not the shape itself.

3. Lay the piece of cardboard over your T-shirt wherever you want the image to appear. Carefully spray the bleach mixture over the cutout. Make sure you're in a well-ventilated area, as the smell of bleach is quite powerful. Don't spray too much to ensure the bleach doesn't drip in places you don't want it to.

4. Wait for the shirt to dry, then wash your shirt again to get rid of the bleach smell. Do not place your customized T-shirt in the dryer; it is best to hang-dry it from now on, to preserve your design.

Fabric Paint

5. Wash and dry the T-shirt before you start working. Stretch the shirt across a large piece of cardboard. Then create a stencil using another piece of cardboard. Simply trace the shape onto the cardboard, cut out with your knife, and place the cardboard outline over the section you want painted. Make sure not to use too much paint because it will drip. Take your paintbrush and dip into the white fabric paint. You can also paint something freehand if you're feeling confident.

6. Optionally, stamp your name or a message on your T-shirt by dipping rubber stamps into the paint and gently pressing them onto your shirt. This allows you to add a message to the image you just created. Use several colors to brighten up the black shirt.

7. Wait for the paint to dry, then wash the shirt as normal. To keep the image intact for as long as possible, hang the shirt to dry. Congratulations---you just custom designed your own black T-shirt.
