The perm was the essence of big '80s hair.
The 1980s might seem like it was the decade of suffocating yourself with hair chemicals and squeezing your body into neon spandex, but these formative years made a lasting impact on the world of style. The '80s had many fashion hallmarks, and when it came to hair, bigger was better, meaning girls crimped, curled and sprayed, while boys gelled and grew it long. The '80s look comes back into style every few years, and always for costume parties. The most important component of any '80s outfit, and a great way to participate in the decade's style, is to give yourself big '80s hair.
Instructions
1. Apply mousse to wet hair and blow dry upside down, fluffing with your hands as you dry. This creates much of the initial volume you need for big '80s hair.
2. Use a very small curling iron or rod to curl all of your hair after it is completely dry. The smaller the curling iron, the more volume and frizziness you will have. This is the essence of '80s hairstyles.
3. Spray curled hair with hair spray, holding the bottle at arm's length from your head.
4. Fluff more with your hands and add more hairspray as needed to keep the hair in place and pouffy.
