The straight lacing technique produces a series of parallel lines running across the top of your shoe.
Converse's Double Upper Ox, like its name suggests, has two uppers. In shoe construction, an upper is the part of the shoe that is attached to the sole, or bottom. Typically, the two uppers in the Converse shoe come in contrasting, customizable colors. Each of these uppers contains a set of eyelets, holes through which you pass your shoelaces. The shoelace colors correspond to the colors of the uppers. Because there are two shoelaces and two sets on eyelets on each shoe, there are numerous ways to lace and tie these shoes. The method described here uses the straight lacing technique in a way to highlight the complementary colors of this unique shoe.
Instructions
1. Place your shoe directly in front of you, with the heel of the shoe closest to your body. Take the shoelace with the same color as the the inner set of eyelets. For example, if your shoe's inner eyelets are placed on white canvas, choose the white shoelaces. Pass the ends the shoelace down through the eyelets of the interior layer of the shoe, starting with the eyelets farthest away from you. Pull the ends of the shoelace so that the right-hand side is the same length as the left-hand side.
2. Take the right-hand side of the shoelace. Pass this end of the shoelace upward through the eyelet directly below the starting position. Guide the shoelace horizontally across the shoe and thread it downward through the eyelet on the left. Run this same shoelace upward through the eyelet two spaces down. There should be one empty eyelet. Then, pull the shoelace horizontally and thread it downward through the corresponding eyelet on the right-hand side of the shoe. Continue this process with the same end of the shoelace until you reach the last set of eyelets. On the right-hand side of the shoe, use successive eyelets. On the left-hand side, skip an eyelet.
3. Take the unused end of the shoelace. Pass it upward through the first empty eyelet on the left-hand side of the shoe. Using the empty eyelets as a guide, repeat the path of the first side of the shoelace using successive eyelets on the left-hand side of the shoe and skipping an eyelet on the right-hand side.
4. Put your foot in your shoe and adjust the tension of the shoelace so that your shoe feels comfortable on your foot. Remove your shoe and place it in front of you with the heel of the shoe closest to your body.
5. Take the different-colored shoelace and thread each end downward through the exterior set of eyelets farthest from you. Repeat the same process that you used for the first shoelace. Then repeat the entire process with the other shoe.
6. Place both shoes on your feet. To tie your shoes, take both shoelaces on the right-hand side of the shoe in your right hand and both shoelaces on the left-hand side of the shoe in your left hand. Tie your shoes with a standard bow.
