Halloween is an opportunity to dress up and a time of year when party invites are guaranteed. The art of of going as a male pairing is to choose costumes that people intrinsically link with being part of a double act. Synchronizing costumes will not only bring you instant attention when you arrive, but will also be a conversation starter throughout the night. A ghost asking where a vampire is won't raise many eyebrows at a Halloween party, but Dr. Frankenstein asking people if they have seen his monster is guaranteed to fire up interest.
Dr. Frankenstein and his Monster
This horror-themed costume idea is suited to a pair in which one guy is taller than the other. The tallest should be Frankenstein's monster, painted green, wearing a heavily shoulder-padded black suit and black shoes, black hair, a scar drawn horizontally across the forehead and bolts on the neck. Bolts can be made from a breakfast cereal box, cut and rolled in to small cylinders, sprayed silver or black, attached to a piece of wire coat hangar and bent to sit either side of the neck. Dr. Frankenstein should have a white lab coat and shirt and tie underneath, all splattered with fake blood, as well as a white or grey wig and a doctor's head mirror, which can be made from a cereal box and covered in aluminum foil.
Mario and Luigi
This costume will be instantly recognizable to everyone and bring maximum attention because of the vibrant and clashing colors. The shorter or thicker guy of the pair should be Mario and the taller or thinner guy be Luigi. The costume requires white gloves, matching dungarees, a red long-sleeved T-shirt for Mario and a green long-sleeved T-shirt for Luigi. The two characters should have red and green baker's caps or newsboy hats, but baseball caps can be used. On the front of the red hat, glue a white cloth circle with an "M" cut in the center, and on the green hat, do the same but with an "L." The final element of both costumes is a large black mustache.
Peter Pan and Captain Hook
As Peter Pan is a boy, this would suit a pair in which one man is shorter than the other, or in which there is an age gap between the guys dressing up. The shorter or younger of the pair should dress as Peter Pan, wearing a green cap with a red feather, a green coat and green tights. Captain Hook should have a tricorne hat, a red captain's jacket and tall, black boots. Captain Hook should also have a black mustache and beard, and a hook instead of a hand. These items can all be handmade or purchased at a costume shop.
Superman and Lois Lane
Cross-dressing for a costume party requires confidence but is guaranteed to gain attention. Superman should wear the classic Superman outfit, including blue suit and red cape and trunks. Lois Lane should be dressed in a pencil skirt and jacket, with a bob or shoulder-length wig, red lipstick and carrying a reporter's notebook. For comic effect, the guy playing Lois Lane could purposely not shave prior to the party, resulting in thick stubble whilst being dressed as a woman. Another source of comedy is found in applying the lipstick haphazardly.
Two Jokers From a Deck of Cards
Going as the multicolored and black and white jokers from a deck of cards will turn heads and only requires two large pieces of cardboard, rope or cord, paint and face paint and a bit of artistry. The card should have face and arm holes cut out, with identical joker bodies painted on them. Both jokers should have a white face paint base, with the multicolored joker wearing colored lipstick and eye makeup, and the other wearing exactly the same makeup design, but in black and grey tones. The card can be hung on the shoulders by attaching cord or rope to the backside.
