Appropriately wearing your ribbons not only sets a good example for junior personnel, it keeps you from being a walking example of "what not to do." Follow these guidelines to properly wear your military ribbons.
Instructions
1. Examine your military ribbons. Look for stains, extensive wear, fraying or tattered ribbons. Replace any military ribbon that has lost its serviceability. Replace the remainder of your military ribbons if the new ribbons make it obvious that your other ribbons are old.
2. Get a ribbon backer from the PX/NEX. Ribbon backers make your ribbons look mounted and provides a sharp look to your uniform. Check the pins in the back of your ribbon rack to make sure that they push through the uniform and the ribbon backer.
3. Arrange your military ribbons in proper order. Review your uniform regulation guidelines for your specific uniform for details. Most military uniform shops have displays showing proper ribbon wear order. Many PX/NEX uniform shops arrange ribbon and medal racks according to ribbon wear seniority.
4. Measure your military ribbons with a ruler to place them in proper position on the uniform. Review your specific uniform regulations for the proper centering and distance measurements. Keep measuring until your ribbon rack is in proper alignment and the required distance from your pocket. By the time you place your ribbons on your uniform, you should be in compliance to your uniform regulations.
