Keep your collar classic and crisp everyday, not just for special occasions.
With the exception of a few formal dresses designed for young girls, a collar should be straight and stiff. Unfortunately, things like detergent, humidity and insufficient ironing can turn any crisp, clean shirt collar into something resembling like a U-shaped potato chip. Rather than spend the day struggling with a collar that keeps curling up, take preventative measures. Using a few simple, clothing care tips, maintaining a straight collar is easy and doesn't require a lot of time or expensive chemical treatments.
Instructions
1. Lay your shirt flat on the ironing board. For polo shirts, slide the shirt onto the ironing board, head first, so the collar spreads over the thickest part of the board.
2. Unfold the collar with your hands and spray starch spray across the material. Hold the spray can approximately 10-inches above the collar and move the spray nozzle across the material in a linear direction.
3. Iron the collar moving from the outer seam inward and back again. Rotate the shirt if necessary on the ironing board to access the entire collar and repeat the steps of spraying and ironing.
4. Flip your shirt over and spray the other side of the collar. Iron your collar from the outside in as before.
5. Remove your shirt from the ironing board and flip your collar back down before hanging or wearing your shirt. For a popped collar, leave the collar flipped open.
