Mens Etiquette For Lower Button Suits

,

There are certain rules of etiquette to follow when wearing a lower button suit.

There are certain rules of etiquette men must follow when wearing a lower button suit. This type of suit is a modern take on the traditional three button suit and leaves a greater opening at the chest area, with only one or two buttons on the jacket that attach close to the man's abdomen. A lower button suit may be worn at business events or dressier occasions like a wedding. Some tips can help individuals ensure they wear a lower button suit properly and stylishly.

Shirt

Because the lower button suit is a modern style, it is perfectly appropriate to wear a bold colored dress shirt under the suit jacket. White and blue shirts are acceptable, as are more unusual colors like yellow, purple and pink. Make sure the shirt is pressed and free of wrinkles.

Vest

A vest is a nice addition to the lower button suit as the position of the jacket buttons at the abdomen allow a vest to be shown off. Patterned and textured vests like pin stripe or brocade can create visual interest and add an extra element of style. Make sure to choose a vest that blends in well with the suit jacket.

Suspenders

Suspenders can be worn in lieu of a vest, and add a traditional element to the modern lower button suit. Suspenders are usually black, and as the job of the braces is to hold up the pants, no belt should be worn when suspenders are chosen.

Tie

A neck tie is the most traditional option for a lower button suit, as the length of the tie accentuates the deep vee of the suit jacket. A bow tie can also be chosen to add a traditional element to the suit, though a clip on bow tie should not be worn as it would be considered a faux pas. Chose a tie that goes well with the wearer's dress shirt. For instance, if the shirt is blue a blue and white striped tie works well.

Handkerchief

A handkerchief is traditionally folded into the breast pocket of a lower button suit. The handkerchief should be in a color that matches the wearer's tie and shirt, and should be folded neatly into a triangle. The handkerchief can be any fabric, and the shine of a silk or satin adds visual interest.
