Men'S Fashion In The 1980s

,

The 1980s are notable for the fashion and beauty trends -- so much so that the decade's trends come back into fashion every so often. The 1980s' men's fashions reflected some of the events going on during the decade. Yuppie style and distinct business attire was one part of that. Other trends incorporated the popular rock and roll music of the era.

Business

The 1980s were the era of capitalism. Men's fashion reflected this. The suit got an overhaul. Suspenders became a popular clothing item to wear with suits. Business suits had narrow detailing. The pants on the business suits in the 1980s were skinnier, while jackets were looser. Broad shoulders on the jackets and bold ties completed this look.

Pastels

A cool fixture in men's fashion in the 1980s was the emergence of white and pastel suits. This involved linen pants, blazers in pastel colors, loafers worn with bare feet and brightly colored T-shirts. The linen pants were generally white, while the blazers were pink or robin's egg blue. A pair of aviator sunglasses and slicked back hair accompanied this distinctive style.

Rock

The 1980s were a decade filled with rock and roll. Toward the mid-to-late '80s, hair metal bands were popular. Men's fashion saw the emergence of bandannas worn around the neck, black leather vests, black shirts, work boots and super-tight jeans. A bracelet made of a band of leather was a popular accessory.

Baggy Pants

Men started sporting a specific type of baggy pants in the 1980s. They were snug at the top, ballooned out and got tighter at the ankles. The pants were almost always in colorful prints. Sometimes they were in eye-popping neon colors or geometric shapes. Along with the pants, sneakers and a tight muscle shirt or T-shirt was commonly worn.
