Anniversaries are another place to wear a boutonniere. If the couple has children, then usually the children purchase a boutonniere for their father along with a corsage for their mother. If the occasion is on the formal side, then sons and sons-in-law, also, wear a boutonniere. Like weddings, the flower of choice is the rose. Silver or gold ribbon adds an accent for 25th or 50th wedding anniversary celebrations.

Men today wear boutonnieres simply to add flair to their wardrobe. A night at the theater or on a special occasion, such as the birthday of a loved one, is an occasion for placing a flower in the lapel.
