What Shoes Look Good On Overweight Men

,

Small, flat shoes such as these sneakers are unflattering if you are overweight.

Many men go through periods of being overweight during their adult lives, and during these periods it can be tricky to find clothing and footwear that is not only functional but also looks good. As the basis of your posture and gait, shoes are a particularly important part of your outfit and can make a real difference as to whether you're looking good or not.

Big shoes

Bigger shoes make your legs, and the rest of your body, look relatively smaller. It's all about proportion. This is one reason why curvy women often look great in massive boots. While thigh-high biker boots might not be your style, choosing chunky, solid footwear--whatever the style--will flatter your body shape and play down that extra weight.

Supportive shoes

How you look is not just about what you're wearing but also about how you move. The most flattering shoes for an overweight man are those that allow him to walk and move around comfortably and freely. For all types of shoes, including sneakers, it's important to find a pair that has excellent support and is truly comfortable to walk in. Don't buy shoes that are uncomfortable or that make you walk flat-footed or waddle uncomfortably. Comfortable, supportive shoes may also make walking and other physical activity more enjoyable, which could help you lose weight.

Shoes to avoid

Smaller and unsupportive shoes are unflattering for overweight people. Shoes to avoid in these categories include most sandals, and especially flip-flops, which offer little or no support and exaggerate the size of your legs. Flat-soled skater-type shoes also don't usually offer the necessary support, while skinny fabric sneakers will make your feet look smaller--and therefore make the rest of your body look bigger.
