Make Your Own Boutonnieres Using Silk Orchids

,

Make your own boutonniere for your next special event.

When you need an eye-catching boutonniere for a special occasion, you don't have to spend a fortune at the flower shop having one made. You can make it yourself. It requires only a silk orchid and a few floral tools to make the perfect accompaniment to for any event.

Instructions

1. Choose a silk orchid that matches your outfit, your date's dress or the theme of whatever event you are attending.

2. Cut the stem of the silk orchid with the wire cutter to make it 3 inches long. Remove any leaves, extra buds and nubs remaining on the stem from where the leaves were attached. Save the leaves.

3. Place some of the greenery or leaves on a counter. Make sure the stem of the baby's breath is a little longer than the flower stem. Lay the baby's breath on top of the greenery, and lay the flower on top of the baby's breath.

4. Wrap the flowers and greenery tightly with the green floral tape. As you wrap the tape, pull it gently to help it stick to the stems. Floral tape will stretch as you pull and wrap the stems.

5. Tie and wrap the ribbon in a complementary color around the green stem. Overlap the ribbon each time you wrap it around the stem to be sure it hides everything and stays in place.

6. Tie a small bow to the top of the stem just below the mini bouquet.

7. Place the boutonniere in a clear plastic box and close the top. Put the box in the refrigerator until the time you will need it. This keeps it fresh.

8. Pin the boutonniere to your lapel or push it through the buttonhole provided on your suit.
