1. The most important step to getting a tattoo apprenticeship is being able to draw extremely well. Draw anything and everything as often as you can. You may also want to take some drawing classes at a local community college.
2. Get tattooed ! Go to a reputable tattoo shop and start getting tattoos, become a regular and ask questions about the tattooing process. Design your own tattoos and bring them to the shop, ask if they have an opening for a apprenticeship.
3. Create a portfolio, This will be the key to getting a tattooing apprenticeship. Take a few of your best drawings ( they should be tattoo type drawings ) and bring them to the tattoo shop. Do not get upset if you are turned down, ask what you can do to improve your artwork, A tattoo needs to be perfect and so does your artwork.
4. If you get a tattoo apprenticeship don't expect to be tattooing for quite a while, You must first learn proper care and sterilization of the tattooing equipment, You will also do plenty of other work around the shop ( including running errands and cleaning toilets ) This can be very discouraging at first but is simply a test to see how eager and determined you are ! do not give up !
