Makeup Ideas For A Prom

,

Dark looks are always popular at prom.

Look ravishing at prom with a dazzling makeup application you can perform yourself. Choose colors that coordinate with your gown, or design your makeup to fit with the prom theme. Go for a sultry look with smoky eyes or a classic application that enhances your natural beauty. Resist the urge to apply heavy makeup when you can achieve the look you're after with reasonable quantities of colorful eye shadow, glowing blush and glossy lipstick.

Classic

Classic prom makeup looks natural, not cakey or overdone. Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone and apply a dusting of powder on top to keep down the shine. Keep eye shadow neutral and light, staying with light brown, pink or pearl tones. Add shimmer with pearly white eyeliner drawn around the edges of the lash line. Intensify lashes with fake lashes and brown or black mascara. Finish with peachy blush and subdued pink lip gloss.

Celebrity

Channel celebrities' makeup styles with dramatic eye color. Apply neutral eye shadow for the base and choose a vibrant pink, purple, navy or green eye shadow to sweep between the lash line and the crease. Brush dark brown eye shadow from the outside of the eye into the crease. Line the upper lash line with dark eyeliner and apply a light, shimmery liner beneath the lower lash line. Prom.net suggests using mint green eye shadow in conjunction with matching eyeliner, especially if your skin is naturally tan or olive. Finish with deep blush and bright pink or light red lipstick.

Mermaid

According to beautytipshub.com, sea themes are one of the most popular at prom. Mermaid makeup goes well with this theme, as does the ever-popular mermaid prom gowns, which are form-fitting on top and curve into a fishtail at the bottom. Experiment with several radiant colors to achieve a wet, shiny texture. This look employs eye shadow in green, aquamarine, blue and purple shades. Use darker colors, like deep green or blue, near the lash line and use turquoise blue and plum purple tones above these colors near the crease and brow bone. Consider applying thick, fake lashes and colored mascara. Keep cheeks subdued, using only a little blush, as this is not the main focus. Gloss lips with exotic lip gloss in purple, orange or hot pink.

Sultry

Sultry looks are always popular for prom. Smoky eyes and deep blush accent this look, which you can apply in a couple different ways. Apply neutral eye shadow as a base, brush dark navy or black eye shadow from lashes to the crease and line upper and lower lashes with thick, dark eyeliner for a less formal look, as suggested on divavillage.com. Brush eyelids with darker colors, like navy blue or deep purple, and line lashes with with dark liner for a smokier look. Decide whether to wear light blush or deep tones; bright blush does not work as well in this case. Pick a neutral, high-gloss lipstick to complete the look.
