Craft felt can be used to create many items.
Craft felt is a versatile material. Because it isn't woven, it doesn't fray when cut. Craft felt can be sewn or glued and is ideal for children's crafts. Some craft felt is made from wool, but most is synthetic.
Synthetic Craft Felt
Most craft felt found in stores is made from synthetic fibers such as polyester or acrylic. These materials are inexpensive, washable, durable and can be died in bright colors. They are not biodegradable, however, and some researchers have expressed concern about the environmental effect of plastics.
Natural Fibers
Craft felt made from natural fibers is available. Wool is often used as it is durable, felts easily and takes dye well. Natural fiber craft felt is slightly more expensive than synthetic felts but it is biodegradable. You can even make your own felt from carded (unspun combed) wool, or from old pieces of knitting.
Recycled Synthetic Felt
Some synthetic craft felt is made from recycled plastic fibers. Eco-fi's range of craft felts, for example, is made from post-consumer plastic bottles.
