There are a couple ways you can make your own clip-on tie. You can either use a pattern for a clip-on tie, which requires the ability to sew rather well, or use a regular tie and adjust it to your needs. The following instructions will show you use a tie and turn it into a clip-on.
Instructions
1. Place your tie around your neck. Tie it like you usually do and make sure it is tightened to the way you want it tied.
2. Using scissors, cut the necktie 2 inches from the knot of the tie on each side. Then lay the tie onto a flat surface. Measure 1 inch from the knot and cut off the material. Make sure there are no threads dangling. If there are, cut them.
3. Bring the two ends toward the knot of the tie. Pin them into the knot. Sew the pinned material to the knot using the same color thread as the color of the tie.
4. Sew three small clips to the inner part of the knot. Sew them on at least 1/2-inch apart. Be sure to use thread that matches the tie.
5. Try the clip-on tie on. Make adjustments as needed. For example, if a clip needs to be moved over a little, then cut the thread and re-sew the clip where it will work better for you.
