A tie clip can help keep your tie in place.
Tie clips, tie straps, tie pins and tie chains all pretty much serve the same purpose: They hold your tie in place and keep it from getting in the way of things. They also provide a noticeable accessory to your outfit, an accessory that can bear your alma-mater insignia or even your family crest. While putting on a tie clip may seem very basic, there are a few guidelines to keep in mind when wearing one.
Instructions
1. Select a tie clip that will match the metal in the rest of your outfit. For example, if your belt buckle is gold, wear a gold tie clip. If your cuff links and belt buckle are silver, select a silver tie clip.
2. Tie your tie as usual around your neck. Run the two pieces of your tie gently through your fingers, making sure neither piece is twisted. Squeeze the end of your tie clip near the hinges to open it.
3. Hold the two pieces of your tie evenly together with one hand. Slide the open mouth of your tie clip horizontally across the two pieces of your tie, securing them together. Place the tie clip in the direct middle of your third and fourth button holes. Make it perfectly straight across.
