Male Wedding Suit Ideas

Men have an array of wedding suit styles to choose from that can help compliment their height and figure. A groom may consider discussing his suit options with his fiancée in order to coordinate the style of his suit with that of her gown. A groom should consider the formality of the event, the time of day of the ceremony and reception and his own comfort when choosing the suit that he and his groomsmen will wear on the wedding day.

Suit Styles

A single breasted suit has one row of buttons down the front, whereas a double-breasted suit has two rows of buttons. Double-breasted suits add fullness to a tall and slim figure, while single breasted suits are slenderizing on a robust man. Single breasted suits have one to four buttons, with fewer buttons allowing more shirt to show, giving the appearance of height.

The pockets of a suit are an important consideration in setting a formal or informal vibe. Jetted pockets sewn into the lining of the jacket are more formal than flap pockets that cover the pocket opening and patch pockets, which are sewn onto the exterior of a suit. The breast pocket of a suit is left open, allowing a groom to coordinate handkerchief colors to match his vest and the bridesmaids' dresses.

Informal Attire

It is appropriate for a groom and his groomsmen to wear more casual attire for informal weddings that take place during the day. Linen suits or khaki pants and an ivory or white pressed shirt with a tie is appropriate for summer events, such as beach weddings or garden weddings. Informal daytime attire during colder seasons require a dark business suit or khaki pants with a shirt, tie and blazer. Semi-formal styles can be achieved by wearing a tuxedo for an evening wedding or dark colored pants with a cummerbund, vest, tie and white dinner jacket for a daytime wedding.

Formal Dress

Male wedding suit ideas for formal daytime weddings include striped black or gray pants with a white turn-down collar shirt, waistcoat and morning coat. A striped gray and black tie and gray gloves highlight this look. A formal evening affair requires black trousers and a tailcoat with a white waistcoat. A formal evening shirt has a wing collar and is accented by a white bow tie and white gloves.
