Types Of Winter Hats

,

Though two scientists at the Indiana University challenged in 2008 the notion that 45 percent of a person's body heat is lost through his head, few would argue that a winter hat does not help keep a person warm on a cold day. There are many types to choose from when selecting a hat for winter weather. Does this Spark an idea?

Beanies

A beanie, or skullie, is a simple hat constructed from material sewn together and then topped with a button or tassel at the crown. Some beanies have a folded lip around the bottom. The hat is typically made of wool or a synthetic knit.

Berets

A beret is a round cap with a soft top that often features a loop on the crown. Unlike a beanie, a beret typically does not cover the ears, and it is usually made of wool or felt.

Flat Caps

A flat cap is a wool hat with a hard bill that extends out front. The top of the hat is completely flat, giving the hat its name.

Newsboy Cap

A newsboy, or an eight-panel, cap is similar to a flat cap, with its wool construction and stiff bill. The top of a "newsy" is fuller and usually features a button at the crown.

Ski Mask

A ski mask is a knitted cap that extends downward to cover the cheeks, chin and nose. In some instances, there are only three small holes in the cap for each eye and the mouth, while others have a window panel open for the eyes.
