Add decorative cufflinks to your French-cuffed shirts.
Cufflinks are decorative fashion accessories used to fasten the cuffs of sleeves. These small pieces of jewelry are paired with crisp French-cuffed shirts and business suits for daytime or sophisticated tuxedos and studs for evening. Whether your cufflinks are silk knots, T-bar or chain-link, you can attach these various types of wrist jewelry to your shirts for casual occasions and the most formal black- or white-tie events.
Instructions
1. Determine the type of cufflinks you will attach to your shirts. There are three basic cufflink styles: the T-bar, the silk knot and the chain-link cufflink.
2. Put on your dress shirt. Fold the edges of the shirt cuff back to reveal the small slots or button holes located at the ends of the cuffs. Pull the edges of the shirt cuff toward your wrist. Overlap the slots in your shirt to prepare the shirt for the cufflinks.
3. Fasten a T-bar cufflink by pushing the piece of jewelry through the top holes of your shirt with the swivel bar closed. Push the swivel bar open to fasten the cufflink and complete the letter T-shape. Ensure that the T-shape is completely flat to secure the cuffs.
4. Attach a chain-link cufflink to your dress shirt by pushing the small end through the small opening on the top of your dress shirt cuff. The chain-link cufflink has a large end that is attached to the smaller end by a chain. With your arms resting at your sides, the large end of the cufflink rests on the top of the shirt cuff, and the small end is visible on the backside of the shirt cuff.
5. Push the round end of a silk knot cufflink through the four small button holes in the cuff to attach this type of cufflink and close the cuff.
