Tie A Forehand Knot In A Tie

,

A tie can add a stylish flare to any outfit.

The "forehand knot" is a common name used to denote the "four-in-hand knot." This knot makes a nice, narrow and slightly asymmetrical triangle. It is best suited for a wider tie made from a heavier fabric. It is one of the simplest tie knots and may also be called the "simple knot" or the "schoolboy knot." It should typically be worn with a button down dress shirt. Use this knot anytime for a quick and conservative look.

Instructions

1. Place the tie around the neck underneath the collar of the shirt and pull the wide end of the tie down so that it becomes longer than the narrow end. The wide end should extend about 12 inch below the narrow end of the tie. The side doesn't matter, but typically the wide end will be on the wearer's dominant hand side for easy mobility.

2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end. Make sure that the wide end is on the top and the narrow end is on the bottom.

3. Flip the wide end so that it comes back around the narrow end. This should make a nice loop around the narrow end.

4. Continue the motion with the wide end around the narrow end so that you have made a complete loop around the narrow end.

5. Curl the wide end up and take it up between your throat and the rest of the tie.

6. Drop the tie down between the narrow end and through the loop you created in Steps 1 through 3.

7. Tighten the knot and line it up with your belt buckle. Adjust until appropriate.
