Identify Polo Jeans

,

With an attentive eye, you can verify whether your Polo jeans are authentic.

Clothing designer Ralph Lauren got his start in fashion more than 40 years ago when he launched a tie collection. As of 2010, that tie collection has expanded into a worldwide clothing brand, including the Polo label. Ralph Lauren Polo jeans are men's designer jeans that run anywhere from $75 to $500. You can discern the real deal from faux Polo denim by studying the label's details.

Instructions

1. Flip through the pages of a high-end fashion magazine, such as "Vogue" or "Vanity Fair." These magazines are stocked with designer clothing ads. Tear out all of the Ralph Lauren Polo ads you can find. Study the characteristics of the denim, looking specifically for the Ralph Lauren trademark.

2. Visit the official Ralph Lauren Polo website. There, you can view jeans and zoom in on specific parts---such as the label on the back waistband. Viewing the jeans will give you a good feel for what Ralph Lauren jeans look like and cost.

3. Go to a Ralph Lauren store or a department store that sells Ralph Lauren jeans and see the jeans up close. There is no replacement for actually seeing the jeans yourself. Make note of the attributes. The label will read "POLO" in all caps followed by a polo player icon. To the left of the polo player are the words "SINCE" and to the right is the year "1967." On the third line of the label, you will read "RALPH LAUREN" in all caps.
